New Future Bible Heroes - "Mr. Punch"

Some artists are too prolific for their own good (we're looking at you Ryan Adams). But Stephin Merritt, the so-called Cole Porter of his generation, isn't one of them. I will follow the man behind Mag Fields, Future Bible Heroes, the 6ths, and Gothic Archies in whatever project he undertakes. Even ... showtunes.

This new Future Bible Heroes track comes from a tribute album to author Neil Gaiman. It's called "Mr. Punch" and is as theatrical and carnival-like as you'd expect from Stephin and Claudia.

Download it exclusively at Fabulist.

Don't forget Chris Ewen.

As if Showtunes and a new FBH track aren't enough, Merritt as the Gothic Archies is releasing a CD of all the songs he penned for the audiobooks to Lemony Snicket's (aka Daniel Handler, sometime accordionist for Magnetic Fields) books. That's due out in October. I've heard several of the songs and they are wonderfully creepy and wry.

I remember finding "Mr. Punch" (the graphic novel) in a dusty old comic book store for real cheap. The cover hooked right away (as does all of Dave McKeans' work). Agreat read, and hopefully the song does near justice.
