New Hayden - "Where And When"
We haven't thought of Hayden for a long while. Not because we don't like the Canadian alt folkster, but because he hasn't released anything new in ages. Thankfully, 2004's Elk-Lake Seranade wasn't to be Paul Hayden Desser's last peep. He's back, here, and so far it's a warm welcome: "Where And When" from his forthcoming, fifth LP In Field & Town has an appealing down-home clappin' vibe to it. Maybe Jack Johnson for people who... You get it and can hear it post jump. Trading hair secrets with Wayne Coyne...

Hayden - "Where And When" (MP3)
Sounds like he borrows Zach Condon's horn section for the rousing finale. Nice.
In Field & Town is out in Canada 1/15 on Hardwood Records. U.S. release still in the works.
Bonus oldies:
Hayden - "Dynamite Walls" (MP3)
Hayden - "Bass Song (Live At Convocation Hall)" (MP3)

Can't.
Freakin'.
Wait.
Hayden was my doorway into "indie" rock. I love this guy.

oh, hell yeah. my doorway, too- i bought "everything i long for" because of the video for "girl of my dreams", and bailed on the whole record until a year or two later, when i listened to it again and fell in love with it.

Good news. Not my doorway, but certainly hanging out in my hallway.

if you aren't familiar, jams like dynamite walls and streetcar will make you wonder how in the hell you are not.

What the hell happened to Hayden? The guy looks like a Geico caveman.
Score = 0
True that.
I was initially let down a bit with Elk Lake Serenade, but after some time and more listens, I'm totally down.
Who else is obsessed with "The Closer I Get"?
That album still rules me.

So Hayden played "Dynamite Walls" with the National at a show in Toronto.
I would kill somebody in front of their own mama for that footage.
Help me...

All the details for the release and Canadian tour (plus great photos of Hayden on The National's current European tour) are up on the fan-site turned official-site Waste Your Days Away (www.wasteyourdaysaway.com).

Really looking forward to this record - it's been far too long. Just picked up tickets this morning for the Halifax show in February. It's at St. John's United Church - should be a good one!

thanks for the link to the folk music comp, the hayden song sounds alittle like even the losers

I just got some tix to see him in a CHURCH in Calgary, but the show is like 4 months away... the new song is really good. Lets hope this new album is better than the Elk Lake Serenade album.

I'd like an album all about his cat's roaming[s].

Got my Toronto Tickets!
Yeah - it's WAY too far away.

Hayden has been pumping out great music for many years, so it's not surprising at all that he has a new album. He’s been around far longer than Jack Johnson and has more talent in his big toe, so to compare the two is an insult, and anyone who thinks Elk Lake is a bad album is flipping bonehead. Get with it.
