New Kevin Drew - "Tbtf"

You aren't supposed to pronounce that track title, even though Kevin could've done us a solid and put little dots between the letters to indicate that it is in fact an acronym. Listening to the lyrics of the first released track from Drew's solo LP Spirit If... reveals all in the hook: "You are Too Beautiful To Fuck, you're too beautiful..." Fear not, though, Kevin's been trading in seemingly crass sentiments paired with airy pop sounds since the touching ode to semen-swallowing "Lover's Spit" -- so the worst pickup line ever actually sounds sorta romantic here. What can we say, Kev's a charmer.

Broken Social Scene Presents: Spirit If... is out 9/18 on Arts & Crafts. You can check Broken Social Scene performing Kevin Drew's sentimentally perverse solo stuff at their only scheduled date, opening for Feist at McCarren Park Pool on 8/29. That's a few months off, so for now, just take the jump for the tracklist.

01 "Farewell To The Pressure Kids"
02 "Tbtf"
03 "F-ked Up Kid"
04 "Safety Bricks"
05 "Lucky Ones"
06 "Broke Me Up"
07 "Gangbang Suicide"
08 "Frightening Lives"
09 "Underneath The Skin"
10 "Big Love"
11 "Back Out On The..."
12 "Aging Faces / Losing Places"
13 "Bodhi Sappy Weekend"
14 "When It Begins"

BONUS: Click here for Drew eating a bowl of cereal and watching porn. Ask no questions; remember, when he does it, it's romantic.

Lest you forget Gum, all the crass glory that was "I'm Still Your Fag."

This song is just, eh. Not really digging the drumming on the wind chimes bit in the middle, or the excessive flute that just assaulted my ears. But then again he does lead BSS, and that kinda explains it all, actually.

I like the song. I have a feeling it definitely isn't going to be the best on the album. Really excited for this record!

I quite like it.
Thought it was intresting, althought the chorus made me laugh the first time, because I wasn't excpeting it.

Although, looking at the tracklist, I'm not sure how comfortable I am with a song called Gang Bang Suicide

that video of him eating cereal and watching porn is strangely hypnotic.

that said, the song is good. sounds like stripped-down BSS, which is what it basically is anyway.

As a graphic designer... I can't believe that this has not spawned more "As a graphic designer" talk yet. Easily the worst artwork ever to come out of A&C, maybe the worst cover I've seen in years. Odd as it may sound, I actually think the promo page with the cereal vid kinda suits Kevin, whereas the poorly collaged unicorns with awful 'fun' typeface is better suited to a 9th grade battle of the bands...

Band To Watch: Blank Dogs

Blank Dogs are actually singular: It's the insanely prolific one-man Brooklyn-based band of Mr. Blank Dog. We don't know too much about the biography of the guy behind the bedroom new-wave pop/punk and he's usually covering his face with masks...
