New Kristin Hersh - "In Shock"

We're always keeping tabs on Kristin and Tanya Donnelly, 'cause whether alone or together (last on 2003's Throwing Muses), they usually deliver something worth listening to. Here Kristin offers the first cut from her forthcoming solo effort Learn To Sing Like A Star, with strings, key shifts, and Hersh's vox riding the piano-and-tom, 6/8 pulse.

Kristin Hersh - "In Shock" (MP3)

Can you believe it's been 17 years since "Dizzy" hit college radio? Four sons, two bands (Throwing Muses and the hardcore-influenced 50 Ft. Wave), still sounding fresh. And she's down with the free music thing, too! Grab more solo Kristin, Throwing Muses, and 50 Ft. Wave MP3s here.

Learn to Sing Like A Star is out 1/23/07 on Yep Roc Records.

What, nary a comment about this song? Jesus.

I will admit I was concerned about Kristin when she released The Grotto; the album was nothing like Throwing Muses or what was to come from 50 Ft. Wave.

If "In Shock" is any indication of what to expect in Learn To Sing Like A Rock Star, Kristin picked up where Sunny Border Blue left off.

High fives, girlfriend.

Just saw Throwing Muses and 50 Foot Wave in San Francisco. High fives, indeed. Kristin's such a great performer.

Pretty nice track, too...

Tanya Donelly's latest album is like what I've heard from this new Kristin Hersh album in that it is more fiery and fleshed out than previous solo releases.

"This Hungry Life" came out earlier this year on 4AD.
