New Lee Hazlewood - "It's Nothing To Me"

Sadly, there won't be many more opportunities to call any Lee Hazlewood songs "new," as the cowboy psychedelia pioneer has announced that Cake Or Death will be his swan song. Diagnosed with terminal cancer, Lee's taking this release to call an end to his decade-long break from the retirement he took back in the '70s. You should know Lee by name, but even if not, you know his songs (like the Jessica Simpson bastardized "These Boots Are Made For Walking") and his fans (like Nick Cave, Sonic Youth, Beck, and Jarvis). Sure, there's a pall hanging over this collection of covers and new songs, but that air of the tragic suits Lee's baritone and sense of gravitas just fine. You'll love this track. Listen for the line: "Ah well that's life or so it was, it ain't nothing to me." We dare you not to have yourself a moment.

I find myself listening to Lee Hazlewood at least once a day. There's something so fantastic about his voice... thanks so much for this post!

I remember seeing him in 99 or something back when he had a bit of a revival (in sweden at least) He sang jazz standards to an audience that just hade discovered his music from the 60s/70s. Near the end he did a short medley of his old hits and introduced it with "Here's the songs that allowed my kids to go to college" (or something to that meaning)

I'm also known as Qowboy Vern. I've posted my own musical tribute to Lee Hazlewood on www.esnips.com (see URL link) if anyone wants to listen in or download for free. I'm a huge Lee Hazlewood fan. He has influenced me a lot.
