New Lou Reed - "Safety Zone"

Mr. Reed wants to build something -- no, not another Killers track. This time he's on the dirty boulevard looking to build a bridge, construct a safety zone (part hospital, part school, part his home ... part his heart), and shed light on the Japanese invasion of Nanking, China during the start of WWII. He writes a general, sees rape at the end of a bayonet ... Yessir, like Jay, Lou saw a movie, was inspired, wrote some songs about it. Here, the moving (ahem) image is the historical documentary Nanking, the songs the grave "Gravity" and the jumpin' post-jump "Safety Zone."

Lou Reed - "Safety Zone" (MP3)

The guitar part's nice, the lyrics kinda lacking ... but dude's heart's in the right place even if his melody (etc.) isn't. Anyhow, while we're being historical, how about some bleached, gutter rocking, bad ass, high on life Lou from '74?

That transvestite question ... fucking great.

Nanking is out 12/12 in NYC at Film Forum; it'll go national in January. Woody Harrelson's in it!

It says 1974 at the beginning of the clip. It looks like Rock and Roll Animal/Sally Can't Dance era Lou.

Perfect...Lou in the time when we were all on the top of the country, the government, and the society. This clip is the example why Reed is now known as "The Legend". An artist of no compare...
