New Maserati - "The World Outside"

Five years is an epoch in 'net music time, but Athens, Georgia boys Maserati are dialing up another dose of post-rock that should capture the Tortoise in you. For Inventions For The New Season, their first outing since '02-released The Language Of Cities, the band has recruited Gerhardt Fuchs (!!!, LCD Soundsystem, the Juan Maclean) for drum duty, and those that have caught 'em on tour with the Chkers come home raving. The Trans Am-ified ride "The World Outside" sees the instrumental quartet building a delayed-out one-bar guit figure to crashing crescendo and back again, while the fractal "12/16" takes the same conceit on a half-time/straight-rock groove detour. If you didn't catch the metaphors ... Maserati makes good driving music.

I can't even put into words how great Maserati is. The Language of Cities is one of the best albums I can think of to listen to while getting busy.

They really are a must-see live band now. I knew very little about them, but was blown away by their live show a couple weeks back.

This band is so criminally unknown and yet so damn awesome; I'm glad they're catching on.
