New M.I.A. - "Hit That"

Maya's next LP is still a couple of summer months away, but patron saint of Sri Lankan dancehall remains beneficent, offering up another cut from Kala (meaning "black," if your Tamil could use a touch up). First came "Bird Flu" and the promise that its "BEAT GON KILL EVERYONE!!" This track comes with less death threats but far more Wreckx-N-Effect referencing and a beat fit for sweaty dance-floor come-ons, as per the title's suggestion. Don't know if Diplo did "Hit That," although Diplo did hit that (rimshot).

M.I.A. - "Hit That" (MP3)

Kala is out 8/21 on XL.

Sorry to be a hater, but wow, that was annoying. I know I'm late to the party here, but the near universal acclaim for the debut really piqued my (procrastinating) interest.

Running the risk of being COMPLETELY dissed on this board, I have to agree with both you guys. If I'm gonna listen to girl rap, it's gonna be the cut Lady Sovereign, who tends to be somewhat annoying as it is. I'm completely bypassing this in the future.

I don't care what the US public or government says MIA better come with that fire (no pun intended) on Kala.

Now, I fucking loved 'Bird Flu'. That track's like drinking 24oz of Robotussin in a rainforrest refugee camp, and I fucking dig it. This though, is kinda flaccid. A late B-Side Missy Elliot beat at best, with none of the frantic energy that makes MIA so special in the first place.

umm.. no "bucky done gun" but not horrible, either. "bird flu" is better. it grew on me, as i imagine this one will, too. but i think the best work by her of late, by FAR, is the bonus track on timbaland's album.

This is great stuff. Just cements the fact that she is the best rapper alive today.

I was a huge fan of Arular, but so far I'm a bit lukewarm on the new shit I've heard. Hopefully it'll grow on me...

i like "hit that", but her song "boyz" is pretty catchy. supposed to be the first single off the new album.

Don't Hate y'all...it's not bad. Bird Flu is definitely Hot and "Boyz" even Hotter...this track isn't even going to be on KALA anyway...(it's left over and if it's left over think of what's to come) just think of it as an I.V. until the good shit comes. CRACK is WHACK...this shit is dope.

I kinda didn't like it either. But Boys is a much better song, so I'm excited still about the album!

That beat was sick as hell. That Boyz track is fire though.
