New Mountain Goats & Kaki King - "Thank You Mario But Our Princess Is In Another Castle"

thubmnail icon: New Mountain Goats & Kaki King - "Thank You Mario But Our Princess Is In Another Castle"

In this Heretic Pride era, John Darnielle's getting involved in some interesting collaborations. His work with Aesop Rock might have felt more left-field, but despite knowing the Mountain Goat's a big fan of Kaki King, a collaborative EP was unexpected. The two recorded the six tracks in western North Carolina's Baucom Road studio and are releasing the fruits of their labor on vinyl as the Black Pear Tree EP. There should be vinyl copies available when the two go out a tour they're joint "Last Happy Night of Your Life" tour, which starts in mid October. For now, take a listen to the EP's video game-referencing closer, "Thank You Mario But Our Princess Is in Another Castle." Darnielle handles piano/sings while Kaki takes on the drums and glockenspiel and the female harmony vocals toward song's end.

Considering King's originally from Georgia, a "Going To Georgia" could have been fun, but this is the actual track list:

Side A:
"Black Pear Tree"
"Mosquito Repellent"
"Bring our Curses Home"

Side B:
"Supergenesis"
"Roger Patterson Van"
"Thank You Mario but our Princess Is in Another Castle"
