New Northern State - "Away Away"

Sprout, Spero, and the Hawthorne-loving Hesta Prynn of sing-rap trio Northern State embraced their inner Beastie for their All City follow up, enlisting Adrock himself (along with Shitake Monkey's Chuck Brody) to produce their forthcoming, rhyme-and-guitar record. The Long Island trio's past tourmates include De La Soul, Talib Kweli, and Tegan and Sara -- all fair touch points for their tone. The first single from the forthcoming record is a little more sultry (with a lot more singing) than they've been in tracks past. Check it:

I was actually listening to Northern State when I saw that headline. I figured it must be a sign or something. This is going to be the greatest song I've ever heard.

And, it's totally lame. They should be rapping about skorts and being white. That's what they're good at.

YAAAYYY NEW NORTHERN STATE.

"Away Away" was very different... not bad, but definitely a more commercial sound. I'm glad that the tracks on their MySpace were more typical of them, though. I love them already.

Would I be amiss in saying that this sounds a bit like Luscious Jackson?

Away Away is definately my favourite song at the moment. Sweet and melodic as it is. It's a good break from the energy they otherwise present.
