New Noveller - "Brilliant Colors"

thubmnail icon: New Noveller - "Brilliant Colors"

Brooklyn noise/film-maker Sarah Lipstate spent a year and change playing in Parts & Labor, but she's been melding double-neck guitar and electronics into compelling drone pieces for much longer. Though she has a number of releases under her belt, the forthcoming Red Rainbows, recorded by Behold... The Arctopus/Dysrhythmia/Krallice/Gorguts multi-tasker Colin Marston is her debut full-length CD. On the five-song collection, the pieces get progressively more expansive, opening with the 4-minute "Rainbows" and closing with the 20-minute "Bends" (which includes a guest spot from No Fun head Carlos Giffoni). The Red Rainbows CD also includes her ink-and-skeleton Brakhage-esque short film "Interior Variations." Whatever the form, Lipstate manages to create minimalist ambient washes that don't come off as academic or soulless. Think, for instance, of Tim Hecker and his "Blood Rainbow." Take a listen to the second excursion, "Brilliant Colors."

Red Rainbows is out 9/1 via No Fun. There's a release party just before that with fellow drone aficionados Ducktails and Burning Star Core and staggered post-DNA no-wavers Talk Normal. Then she's off to Scandinavia.

Man, this is catchy. This'll be a great tune to share with my co-workers at the office.

C'mon Stereogum...why are you wasting my time with this fucking awful New York hipster/artsy bullshit. It's stuff like this that makes me pissed off for being a MUSICIAN and getting nowhere. If I were to record my cat having sex, slow it down and be from NY, can I get on your site too?

My guess is if you recorded your cat having sex, slowed it down, lived in NY, and were better looking than Sarah Lipstate, then yes, you would be mentioned on this stie.

I mention this because... yes, it's just well engineered noise... and there must be some other reason this song is being mentioned.

PS
If you are indeed better looking, then you should move to NY now. There are people there that will notice you.
