New Octopus Project - "Truck"

The hyperactive, theremin-wielding outfit Octopus Project ruled the Pool for a gloriously boozy Sunday this summer, mixing balloons, Theremins, and Peelander-Z into a 45-minute exercise of whetting our appetites for the new. And for their forthcoming, third LP, the Austin-based quartet set out on a defined mission to "achieve the perfect blend between high-end studio trickery, and lo-fi home experimentation." That meant tracking both to tape and using ProTools, splicing studio time with bits lifted straight from the album's demos, etc. New cut "Truck" is up to snuff by those standards, flipping a keyboard signature held down with garage-y, fuzzed-up guitar into a cymbal-ridden section of pretty, well-mixed arpeggios. Perfectly scuffed studio sound, and out in just over two minutes.

Octopus Project - "Truck" (MP3)

And in case you missed it earlier, take this Theremin-y cut for your octopodal pleasure...

someone please explain to me the appeal of this band. i saw them in chicago several weeks back and it was one of the worst sets in recent memory. HUGE thumbs down.

maybe you caught them on a bad night. for them, or you, i'm not sure, but i think they're a fucking incredible band, especially live. every one of the half dozen times i've seen them i went home with a broken neck and painful bruises on my eardrums.

if you get another chance to see them...give them another chance.

I agree, I too DO NOT get there appeal! I think MOST people are just looking for the cool, new, thing. Oh, well what is horrible racket to one, is music to another. I do have some advice upon hearing the new album, STAY AWAY FROM VOCALS!! their voices are laughable!!!

Chuck is on drugs. Just saw them tonight and they were unbelievable. Best live show in a long time. And I don't remember a single vocal.

I heard they have a transvestite in the band! Rock on! I also heard he/she plays an awesome instrument!

This is for Mark, they do have a vocal track, entitled "Queen". It is on the new album is the only one to my knowledge. I didn't know about the transvestite though! is this true, anyone??
