New Pepi Ginsberg - "Son"
Brooklyn-based songwriter Pepi Ginsberg made it onto our radar with the colorful, psychedelic video for "The Waterline" from her third album Red. The song blended Edie Brickell warmth with a jazzier early-period Jolie Holland enunciation and a general Beatnik feel to the old-NY lyricism. On "Son," another Red track, Ginsberg sounds more like Dylan in her cadences, reminding us that she's "not your man" across the tune's slow unfurling. Just in case you were confused.

I bumped into this girl sniffing around in 1968. Nashville Marquee Red Moon Skyline is a sound worth digging around for. Max's is a club worth reopening.
