New Radiohead - "Weird Fishes (Amplive Remix)"

It only took Pocket two days to remix Radiohead's Björk cover after thumbs_down day, which means comparatively speaking, Amplive is a slacker; it's taken him a whole seven weeks to put his spin on the Gummys bait that is In Rainbows. The Bay Area producer (Akon, Talib Kweli)/half of Zion I has scrapped together a project dubbed Rainydayz Remixes, culling six IR cuts and chopping 'em up, spiking the punch with varying degrees of embellishments. "Weird Fishes" stays true to the original's arc -- one groove, one progression; slowly grooving, slowly progressing -- spiced up with a fake finish, some Thom tinkering and a Radiohead-meets-Neptunes-enhanced-JT beat. Ain't nobody love you like I love you, etc.

Amplive's "Nude" comes as more of a makeover, complete with some new verses letting you know "big booty girls are a black man's savior."

The six-song tracklist has yet to be revealed, although it looks like Amplive will just keep posting to his MySpace. Don't know what's gonna be on it, but who needs "Videotape" when you've got polaroids.

Radiohead

But really, thou shalt not need Radiohead polaroids when thou could listen to Dan Le Sac Vs. Scroobius Pip's "Letter From God To Man" set to a chopped and flipped "Planet Telex."

Amplive is dope on most anything he puts his mind to. The beats he created for Zion-i's 2000 album 'Mind over Matter' was so ahead of it's time; it sounds better than a lot of the stuff produced today.

can we be done with radiohead at least until everyone gets their stuff in the mail. i never thought i'd say this, but all this radiohead is getting really old. maybe their marketing scheme made them as annoying as using the standard. on the other hand, when is Pocket remixing alive 2007?

hrm. the weird fishees mix is pretty cool. doesnt really go anywhere, but its nice. the nude one is a little bit weak though in my opinon. kind of awkward sounding. not as well done.

and in response to jimjones....WHAT?!!!!!!!!??!?!

Sorry but a remix by someone by other than Radiohead does not deserve a "New Radiohead" headline.

This sounds great! I'm awaiting the next 4.

I was going to write teh same thing that mattshu said.

Basically, isn't this old (relatively speaking) Radiohead and new Amplive? The new part of the material is Amplive's work.

"New Radiohead Remixes" sounds more appropriate.

pardon the ignorance, but i'm a bit new to this stuff. does the remixer get access to the individual tracks of a song, or are they creating this from the single track off the album?

Individual tracks usually, j. If it's a legal remix.

Jimjones: Say WHAAAAAT?! and other such Americanisms suitable for such an occasion.

To answer J's question: It doesn't sound to me like he had access to the original masters at all. Just took the album track and cut it up.

Interesting, but not super impressive. Caught my attention at first, but as mentioned above, doesn't really go much of anywhere.

these are O.K, but nothing great. they're just the album tracks cut up, put through some effects blenders, and some (admittedly pretty cool) grooves thrown over the top. still, i would imagine there's worse out there than this.

Those remixes absolutely SUCK. And I'm not just saying that because they butchered what were originally beautiful songs. I'm saying it because they just are not good. At all. AT ALL.

Holy crap. Way to try and whore yourself with the Radiohead name.... Tom Pitloff... Agree with you whole heartedly. Give any 10 year old Fruity loops and they think they're a F'ing star. This is the worst usage of cut up tracks, and the beats are WEAK as HELL.

I'm so sick of crap so called "hip hop" dominating today's society in the U.S. because all it ever is anymore is something to market drivel products to stupid Americans who don't know what else to do with their so called "democratic" based freedoms.

Give any black kid a mic and some software and there ya go, instant star. God I hate this country. And yes, I'm "american". Born in Brooklyn.

But the main point ? This is CRAP.

Here is my "Bristol" version, Bristol being the home town of Portishead, Massive Attack, Tricky, and many other great artists.
