New Shearwater - "The Snow Leopard"

thubmnail icon: New Shearwater - "The Snow Leopard"

Shearwater's Jonathan Meiburg left Okkervil River, but you wouldn't know it from current The Stand-Ins single "Lost Coastlines." Still, it's true, he's gone. It's also true that Shearwater are releasing a seven-track digital EP in tandem with newest full-length Rook. It includes a live version of "Rooks" plus other live radio session cuts and b-sides. The main focus, though, is album track "The Snow Leopard," which you can listen to here while reading over the rest of the tracklist. It's twice as long as last cut "Leviathan, Bound" and comes with a pretty dramatic tail-end.

Shearwater - "The Snow Leopard" (MP3)

Here's a tracklist:

01 "The Snow Leopard" (album version)
02 "So Bad" (iTunes bonus track)
03 "North Col" (vinyl and iTunes bonus track)
04 "Henry Lee" (live from KUT)
05 "Rooks" (live from Radio K)
06 "I Was A Cloud" (live from Radio K)
07 "South Col"/"The Snow Leopard" (live from Florence Gould Hall, NYC)

"So Bad"'s a Baby Dee cover and "Henry Lee"'s the American traditional.

The Snow Leopard EP is out 10/14 via Matador. The cover art's a detail from "The Hardriim" by Kahn + Selesnick. Shearwater's touring:

Sounds similar to Pyramid Song. The song itself is fantastic.

Sounds good, this band is getting a lot of hype right now. They are good musicians though.
