New St. Vincent - "Now. Now."
The buzz on St. Vincent (a.k.a. Annie Clark) has been roaring for awhile now, and she's worth every drop. The 24-year-old Polyphonic Spree trouper/Sufjan-touring-brigade member instigated a bit of a bidding war last year, and the folks at Beggars were lucky enough to scoop her up and good enough to unleash this single from her forthcoming album. The track is a mover, starting all sweet-like but getting stirred up with a dose of fusion-y fretless bass, devolving into a delirious, cataclysmic outro.

Man, this is a great song. I'm going to see her at The (Art) Garage, and I'm really curious to see what people think of her. Plus the show should be amazing. I'm probably more excited about her than Vanderslice.

If you like Joanna Newsome, you will probably also like this crap. Norah Jones, Regina Spektor, Amy Winehouse, Feist she is not. Actually I could go on listing female folk poppy indie vocalists that she is not and the only one that I can think she is as bad as is Joanna Newsome. I don't buy the hype.

i'm so glad to see a post about her - i saw her open for midlake last month, was wary of her (not a joanna newsom fan and i thought she'd be a clone), and she absolutely blew me away. i think she's going to be huge.

I saw her open for Sufjan Stevens in the middle of November in Sweden last year and it was just amazing. Everyone in the audience was stunned. She said: "This song is called... 'Marry Me Sufjan Stevens'... No, wait, 'Marry Me John'." She's so cute. I am really looking forward to the album!

I love St. vincent or aka Anne Clark, I saw her at the Arcade Fire show in deer lake park. I found her music very entertaining and enlightening. I definatly think everyone should check her out expecaily live. All the best in the future Anne

Annie's persona Is almost the reversal of Hedwick and his angry inch, hip and faulted and full of irony.
But I'm crazy for this Indy Chick, her band, and the doses of their magic which takes us to higher levels of energy.
