New Stars - "The Night Starts Here"

Good news for Stars-gazers young and old: The bellicosity of recent times are over (at least by the Canadian quintet's assessment), and it's time to take stock of the fallout with the band's upcoming LP In Our Bedroom After The War. And to celebrate this new, most definitely proverbial reign of peace, the good folks at Arts & Crafts make an offering of the band's first single from the newbie, "The Night Starts Here." Very cool stuff, Torquil and Amy doing their you-sing/I-sing thing set to some programmed beats, symphonic sounds, and a sorta smoldering guit/bass rumble.

Stars - "The Night Starts Here" (MP3)

Cute cover art -- tip and a nod to Van Gogh's bedroom/color palette.

In Our Bedroom After The War is out 9/25 on Arts & Crafts. Tracklist after the jump.

02 "The Night Starts Here"
03 "Take Me To The Riot"

09 "Window Bird"
10 "Bitches In Tokyo"

Absolutely stunning. I can't wait to hear the rest of the album. New Stars AND Broken Social Scene/Kevin Drew within one week of each other? A&C are spoiling us.

Hmm... not my favorite Stars track. Still, can't wait for a new album.

Anyone else getting bored of this tired Canadian-influenced indie -jazz-? More of the same. Meh. Would of been mildly interesting in 2004/2005 maybe.

Aw, is little Vinnykins having a floppy boo boo pouty pout? You are the indiest boy in your whole school! Yes you are! Yes you are! Let the other boys and girls enjoy their music and you can have this new post-electro-funk-tribal music Mommy bought you! Be a good boy!

Ah, Moeder. Go wash your knickers :). Look, I'm entitled to my opinion. This just happens to sound like one of Shakespear's Sister grew a pair of balls and reunited for a 2004/2005-era remix of "Stay".

Some folks will enjoy this track I'm sure. I'm not disputing that at all. Just making a general observation. Others -may- agree, to some degree. Folks who don't get all post-menstrual and paranoid that I'm dissing one of their "favourite poster bands". Only you "Mom" (or whatever) would lift some Pitchfork tripe like post-electro-funk-tribal for a retaliatory post.

This is one of my most highly anticipated records this year (right behind Okkervil River and Kevin Drew). I LOVE the album cover. Very awesome. The song is merely alright, as far as Stars go, but I still have extremely high hopes for this album.

Seems pretty generic to me. Certainly doesn't pique my interest in the album. Ah well.

i love set yourself on fire, but don't really like the older stuff. this sounds like older stuff :(

i don't understand why anyone would like this album cover. the way "Stars" is written apparently isn't illegal in Canada. one more reason to hate them.

have you guys ever seen the cover of Tori Amos' Under the Pink? It's also really good.

Fuck you.

That's what I like about it.
I can here some elements of set yourself on fire, and some elements of older stuff, and some completly new stuff, and I like a lot.
The lyrics are so good. :)

I adore Stars, but this song is merely okay, in my opinion. I don't dislike it all and appreciate that it is somewhat reminiscent of their earlier work, but I hope the strings and orchestration of SYOF work their way into the new album; I guess we'll have to wait and see. The lyrics don't do much for me, either, nor does the cover art.

I don't see how anyone can like the lyrics. They're really pedestrian and generic. The music isn't really that good either. A pretty lackluster song that won't really generate any buzz. A&C: bad song and bad choice of single. Hope the rest of the album has some stuff worth listening to.

I can understand those who don't know Stars wouldn't like this song -- it does sound kind of generic, not really that dynamic. Ageless Beauty was a weird choice for a first single for Set Yourself on Fire, too, but that whole album was great. So here's hoping.

This song is SO average.

This album cover is embarrassingly GROSS.

Wow.

The first time i heard this song i thought it waas ok, not the best stars have ever recorded, but after listening several more times the song grew on me and now i think it is such a good track. I am anticipating this album more than any other album, and i am also looking forward to the new kevin drew and the supposed new metric album. This should be a sick year for music! (those of you who didn't like this song, take a few more listens).

I bought the album from iTunes last night and WOW! I cannot stop listening to it. They released the album early for download; however, the CD release is not until September 25. I just couldn't wait! My favorite track at the moment is "Take Me To The Riot" but they are all catchy!

"Cute cover art -- tip and a nod to Van Gogh's bedroom/color palette." Hmm, personally I think the color palette reminds me of Matisse or Cezanne.

The album title is interesting too because the last album had some content about "war". In the bedroom after the war -- Is it safe to go out now???
