New Swan Lake - "Spider"

thubmnail icon: New Swan Lake - "Spider"

Swan Lake's second album Enemy Mine is a dense, satisfying listen. If you've heard no more than the previously 'Gum Dropped Carey Mercer-penned opener "Spanish Gold, 2044," you've already heard no less than the album's best single song. The "supergroup" trio, of course, also includes Dan Bejar and recently Progress Reported Spencer Krug, and each of those guys brought songs to the table. But this time out it's Mercer who seems to shine most regularly. All that said, each writer bring gems. For instance, see Bejar's "Spider."

So you can add to your Enemy Mine collection, here's the stellar "Spanish Gold, 2044" again and the Krug-led "A Hand At Dusk."

i feel like the whole destroyer/new pornographers/wolf parade/frog eyes/sunset rubdown crew is consistently making some of the most solid new music. far out

Besides 3 or so songs this album is anything BUT a "satisfying listen"...

I don't know, Dan is great on his own, but in Swan Lake he's a dwarf among giants.

Can't wait for the next Frog Eyes album, Carey seems to be on a roll.

P.S. - Spencer Krug is my God.

i think the krug track is the best; the rest sound a bit messy

Um, did you hear Beast Moans? The messiness is part of Swan Lake's appeal.

A Hand at Dusk is the album's best song, but the whole thing is pretty good. That said, I totally disagree that the Mercer tracks are the best. He sounds like someone doing an over-the-top Bowie impression.

over the top Bowie? At best, you sound like an over the top Blow Hard? It always tickles me when the comments make no fucking sense. And you can tell that the commenter is so unaware of what he/she is listening to because they suggest the idea that, in their own humble opinion, the album should sound differently somehow than the the way it sounds.

you're the listener. just listen.

Peace is such a rad song. I get what people are saying with Mercer sounding a bit rediculous, and I am not that used to his voice but I do like what he does on this record. At first I didn't like his voice but it grows on you.

Yea, with Swan Lake is seems to be a common theme to find the beauty amongst the mess. Most every song is chaotic and crazy but at its heart is melody and great song writing that we are come to expect from people like Bejar and Krug.
