New Ted Leo & The Pharmacists

Mr. Theodore Francis Leo has unleashed two new demos on his official site.

"Hey, so we're going on tour next week, and new stuff isn't as far along as I was dreaming it would be, but we have a few new ones that we'll be playing, and I think that I got some good recordings of rough versions of two of them (especially ignore the guitar solos -- they'll get better) from yesterday's practice, so I thought I'd share them wif yiz."

Consider 'em a South By Stereogum preview (you still have a few days to enter to win tickets if you haven't yet.)

Mirrors at the fan site, timorousme.org. We've got the other new song, La Costa Brava, up there too.

I'm struggling to get through "Army Bound." What a bland song (bland when graded on Ted's curve is great when judged against most other artists, of course). Might have to pass on the other demos and wait to be surprised when the finished album is out.

i can't say i agree. to me, 'army bound' is more in step with the production on ted's previous albums (both as ted leo and in chisel), and the song is instantly catchy as well. although i really loved 'shake the sheets,' i much prefer hearing ted's songs with this sort of lo-fi production. i wish he'd just straight release these songs as is.

This ain't Guided by Voices we're talking about here. Recording and, more importantly, performance-wise, these sound like demos. Demos of very good songs, sure, but definitely demos. After some practice, these will undoubtedly sound tighter and better.

We're talking about a guy who released 'Tell Balgeary, Balgury Is Dead' and 'Treble in Trouble,' which are both essentially demo-sounding records.

'Army Bound,' is as good as, if not better, than many of his other songs.

Ted Leo is flat-ass boring.

There, it's been said.
