New Tigercity - "Fake Gold"

thubmnail icon: New Tigercity - "Fake Gold"

Brooklyn's '80s and Bee Gees/Hall & Oates-inflected lite-rock quartet Tigercity self-released their Pretend Not To Love EP in 2007. After lengthy tours with IMA Robot, VHS or Beta, Via Audio, etc., and some post-production rest, the group's following it up with their first full-length Ancient Lover this fall. Take a listen to the smoothly honest first single "Fake Gold." It's about trying to stay fab in this shitty economy, more or less.

This sounds more than a little trite for my tastes.

sounds like a Survivor song that wasnt good enough to make it onto any of the Rocky soundtracks

The track is nice, but their live show really leaves something to be desired.

Sounds like a lost Foreigner track methinks.

This would be awesome if the 80's hadn't happened yet and every song from that decade was better than this one!

Anyone who hates on Tigercity has never seen them play live. Bill Gillim is one of the best vocalists in the country. I'm really looking forward to their show at Great Scott in Boston on September 3rd.

Great vocalist...but you've seen them live? He literally walks back and forth the whole set. It's pretty damn boring if you ask me.

The new track does sound like a cousin of Survivor's "Burning Heart". It's ok, but I expected a bit more after their pretty damned good EP. Gillim does pace back & forth, staring at the ceiling most of the time onstage which is odd, but that doesn't mean they're not good live (they are).

Interesting sound..
Definitely a bit of a departure from their EP.
It sounds a little 'heavy' to me. Still a solid band and I'm always eager to hear new music by them.
Great guys and I couldn't be happier to see them getting noticed.
