New Vetiver - "Been So Long"

Since I'm in the area, it seems appropriate to throw some love at San Francisco neo-folkies Vetiver. Here's what music mecca Aquarius has to say about Andy Cabic & friends' new one To Find Me Gone:

"Unlike their debut, where the strong songwriting and performances were a bit overshadowed by the heavyweight guest appearances from Hope Sandoval, Colm O'Ciosoig and Joanna Newsom (It also came across in some press as a Devendra side project), Cabic comes fully into his own here, showcasing a sublime quality of world-weariness hewn from months on the road. It's exciting, after hearing their debut, which was years in the making, to not find the usual sophomore slump, but instead witness such naturally self-assured songwriting and arrangements. ... Less 'freak-folk' than his friends and contemporaries, Cabic instead follows the compositional path of 70's singer-songwriters like J.J. Cale, Emitt Rhodes and John Phillips. Beautiful and so totally recommended!"
Aquarius has never steered me wrong. Well, except for L.

Here's the dreamy, tribal opener I uploaded for ya before I got here.

Vetiver - "Been So Long" (MP3 Link Expired)

Vetiver only have one friend? C'mon kids, we already told you Devendra's not a pedophile! Speaking of which -- yes, I'm going there -- does anyone else LOVE Dateline's To Catch A Predator series?

I can't believe that one guy brought along his little son when he went to meet up with the teenage boy for sex!

Actually, Vetiver's myspace is myspace.com/vetiverse, so they have more than just one friend.

"Down At El Rio" might well be one of the most delightful songs of the year. Loving the whole album!

It's funny how they all say they've never done anything like that before, yet they all bring condoms and booze.

This vetiver album is one of the best of 2006. Such lasting timelessly good music... I saw devendra live a few weeks ago and they played some of the new vetiver stuff live and it was amazing.

i don't know... the sick pleasure dateline gets from fucking over these pedophiles might be more disturbing than the actual offenders themselves. seriously, why is dateline so obsessed with this topic? but yes, i must admit that i love the series and am glued to it everytime a new one comes on (which is like twice a week now).

Does this guy, Marvin, need to sign a release to let them air this thing?

Not that I think it's ok, he's obviously a perv looking for some 14-year old tang who freaks with her cat.

I assume he had to sign off on this, right?

The only thing creepier then the online pedophiles are those people they feature from "Perverted Justice"! I find them all highly suspicious.

No! No one would let allow NBC to air it if it was his call. Some of the people caught were police officers, schoolteachers, even a rabbi. They lost their jobs, etc... and are facing criminal charges.

"To Catch a Predator" is the ultimate guilty pleasure. I love how all of them were just there to "warn" the teens about the dangers of online predators... and how they have voice-over actors read the dialogue!!!! Paying someone to say "For realz??" is quite easily the 4th Horsemen of the apocolypse!

I feel bad for the molesters on To Catch a Predator. Child stalkers deserve to be arrested, imprisoned and viciously sodomized. But no one should have to sit and listen to self-righteous, talking haircut Stone Phillips. I feel so strongly about this, I posted some tips to would-be molsters for how to avoid Dateline NBC stings on my own site.

That paedophile thing was wrong. Still amazes me that people do it, but it amazed me even more when they didn't blank out his face or name. Like Richard said above, I would've thought he'd have to sign a release form, and if he didn't then he should take them to court as they have effectively ruined his life - although he was planning to ruin a young girl's.

It's total entrapment, but I can't stop watching.
Love how the pervs keep eating cookies as Chris Hansen humiliates them!
I hope the actress who plays the 14-year-old plant goes on to better gigs than this.

i love how dateline exploits these sickos for their own gain. i mean, they could easily do a much more sophisticated report, ensure the cops deal with these sickos, and get the info out there to concerned viewers without showing chris hansen humiliate these idiots over milk and cookies, and doing voice-over re-enactments of the instant messenger conversations.

these internet predators need to be stopped, no doubt about it. but if you think nbc isn't out to 'entertain' you with this garbage - after all, it's all about ratings - you're dead wrong. shame on dateline for sexing up what is a very horrific and grave trend out there.

I don't care if they make the pedophiles dress up like panda bears and dance with K-Fed, just get them out of there. They should do this every day.

Oops.. it's Chris Hansen, not Stone Phillips. Can you really blame me for being unable to tell them apart? They must breed these network news guys in a lab somewhere.
