New What's Up? - "Harper"

thubmnail icon: New What's Up? - "Harper"

On "Harper," from their debut collection Content Imagination, notey instrumental Portland-via-Sacramento trio What's Up? come off like a steel-drumming Trans Am. Or Lucky Dragons giving a go at Zombi in a PDX Tiki bar. The sound's steeped in that lower-fi DIY thing the kids like, and "Harper" offers up an intentionally imperfect, non-slick ending. If you go to see the Dirty Projectors on the West Coast, you might catch the guys opening. As the various words and associations above should connote, that makes total sense.

Terrible. The MOST overrated band in PDX, perhaps in all the land. What's up? Nothing. At all. Some wandering, effects ladden keyboard notes that goes nowhere. That's What's Up

On the contrary. What's Up is one of the most underrated bands in Portland. Those guys are serious. I'm stoked to see them in LA.
