New Wolf Parade - "Language City"

thumbnail icon: New Wolf Parade - "Language City"

One of Dan's many shining moments at Mount Zoomer, "Language City" is a driving early-album rocker that shifts through a few sections of alternating urgency, pairing salt-of-the-earth guitars with Spencer's winding synths. Honestly, though, every time we hear it it's like we're just biding time to the 3:45 mark and that stomping, club-ready bassline that delivers thrills, and chills, each time out. It's one of those moments that sounds like it's always been written, just that Wolf Parade fell upon it, and it makes us want to see them live so fucking badly. It's yours for the downloading at MySpace.

At Mount Zoomer is out 6/17 via Sub Pop.

Wolf Parade is pretty rockin'. Not the BEST album I've ever heard... but not the worst either. I definitely gotta add them to my "live bands I need to see" list!

Nice listen. But definitely not one of the best songs on the album.

I agree with Nathaniel. California Dreamer is the shining moment of the album.

Great listen -- and somewhat agreed on the change up at 3:45; although I wouldn't say I was biding my time. The flip feels like nice surprise at the end of the overall experience. Kinda like when you get one of those mass produced ice cream cones and reach the solid chocolate core at the bottom of the cone. mmmmm... ooh! here comes the ice cream man now!

that's weird....i think california dreamer is the only true blemish on the album....definitely not a highlight for me. to each, his own, i suppose.

California Dreamer a blemish? Seriously?! For me, it's totally the gem of the album; but yes, to each their own.

Prediction: At Mt. Zoomer - P4k rating - - 8.8 - 9.5. It's that good. A grower that just keeps getting better and better and better. . .

Album of the year thus far.

p4k will hand it a safe 8.3-8.7, just like RSL.

I haven't heard any of it yet (by choice), but I agree with Chris. If only so I could add that Pitchfork had better not completely snub it from there top 100 of the year list, like they did Random Spirit Lover. That was just bad quality control.

Band To Watch: Blank Dogs

Blank Dogs are actually singular: It's the insanely prolific one-man Brooklyn-based band of Mr. Blank Dog. We don't know too much about the biography of the guy behind the bedroom new-wave pop/punk and he's usually covering his face with masks...
