New Wye Oak - "Warning"
The female-fronted Baltimore duo Wye Oak used to be called Monarch. Wonder if they changed their name after being confused with Monarch!, the female-fronted French doom band? No confusion, really: The noisy, swirling, multi-layered, shoegazing pop of Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack has more velocity, girl. Speaking of Maryland, and all.

I like their sound. They're on my watch list for 2008.

If it's a female-fronted band, why is she standing behind and in the shadows of the dude?
Just sayin'.

Likely because it was one of a myriad of photos taken and then randomly selected by someone outside the band. Knowing the band, and the fact that there are no weird gender politics, that's my guess.
