New Young Rival - "4:15"

thubmnail icon: New Young Rival - "4:15"

We don't know too much about Hamilton, Ontario quartet Young Rival, but "4:15"'s been sounding good on repeat listens, so we wanted to post it. We do know they recorded their forthcoming album with Emery Dobyns, a Grammy winner who's also turned knobs for Antony, Battles, and Patti Smith. Also, they went on tour with the Sadies in Canada last fall and Born Ruffians this spring. Not bad, Young Rival. But whatever, the background's not that important. Just take a listen to "4:15," a smoothly dark, refined Zombies-esque pop with a great guitar sound. That's what hooked us first.

Young Rival - "4:15" (MP3)

Five minutes before 4:20. They'd intended to play at the Bowery with Tokyo Police Club last summer, but were stranded at the border with visa problems. Things went better at the border this time -- the boys have a show tonight at the Annex, if you find yourself in the NYC area. Hear more here.

More Canananda!

Track sounds great. I think that "Don't Make A Sound" on their Myspace site (http://www.myspace.com/youngrivalmusic) is even better!

Oh, okay, next time I legitimately like something I'll be sure to stand around with my arms folded and say "oh, yeah, that one is alright I guess."

Ouch dude. That had to hurt. Although, Ambulance is way, way, way more boring than this. This isn't half bad.

This song is a definite highlight. Stood out the other night at the annex for sure. Overall they are one of the better new old sounding bands that take a lot of influence from the byrds, kinks and zombies. I hate to make the comparison but they reminded me a bit of a toned down mooney suzuki in the best possible way.

Quit Your Day Job: Ungdomskulen
