New Brad Laner - "Find Out"

When Medicine set out in the '90s as one of America's finer shoegazer outfits, their take on the sound was more of the razorblade, sliced tweeter variety -- which is why checking in with former member Brad Laner is gratifying: dude's getting loopy 'n' trippy these days.

Granted, Brad's been releasing records steadily under the Electric Company moniker, but his first Laner-branded LP's of a different ilk, leaving the Kraut-y, IDM explorations aside for something entirely more psychedelic. "Find Out"s our fave, a sun-splattered psych-popper recalling Dungen on a "Familj" day, melting in and out of kaleidoscopic "ooh-la-la" harmonies, tinkling glocks, and vintage, tube-crackling guitars. Headphones recommended.

As bonus for those needing another shot from the Medicine man, take this remix of "Sure" by Lexaunculpt (aka Alex Graham), also from Brad's forthcoming Neighbor Singing.

Neighbor Singing is out 11/6 on Hometapes.

He and Christopher Willits also released a pretty great album as North Valley Subconscious Orchestra that's very worth investigating if you like either one of them....

Wow! I'm listening to "June Gloom", this is AWESOME! Brad Laner is truly talented, I was fan of Medicine and though I never caught up with the Electric Co. I am definitely excited to hear his new solo.

I'm listening to June Gloom as well. And yeah, this stuff is really intense...like a crystalline version of what Lennon might have become with today's technology (and no yoko-fication). The clarity of the recording is astonishing, and the wandering non-traditional song structures are what a lot of bands aim for but never achieve. This isn't wandering as in "meandering pointlessly" but wandering as in exploring along the psychedelic path. Very post rock as in everything that makes post rock so fascinating.
