New David Byrne & Brian Eno - "Strange Overtones"

thubmnail icon: New David Byrne & Brian Eno - "Strange Overtones"

We've given you the background on Everything That Happens Will Happen Today, David Byrne and Brian Eno's first full-on studio collaboration since My Life In the Bush Of Ghosts. (They couldn't called the new one My Life In The Ghosts Of Bush, by the way). Now there's a full Everything song at everythingthathappens.com. As you listen to the warm, spacey, funk-tinged track note the some wry lines ("this groove is out of fashion / these beats are 20 years old," etc.) in the midst of the storyline. They'll ask for your email address and postal code before you imbibe, but that seems like a small price to pay.

Also, we (and David Byrne) spoke about the upcoming Byrne-piloted tour in support of the album. Byrne mentions it again today in his journal, this time with his marketing plan:

I'm also wondering whether the web-curious will allow news of the album to spread more or less by itself. In the past, I might have undertaken all kinds of expensive marketing plans to prepare for a record release: there would be a teaser, live shows, posters, magazine ads, interviews, and advance CDs sent to writers and reviewers. We've done a few interviews, but that's about it. It will be interesting to see if audiences find out about this song -- and the record -- without all those marketing techniques, and solely through Internet word-of-mouth.

We're doing our part, David. You can read the rest of the journal entry here. And, the dates:

"You may ask yourself why your on the "Love Boat"..." Seriously, damn seductive by the second listen. Better than anything on "Eyeball" all because of Eno's witchcraft. I have no idea whether it's a good song or not.
