New Discovery (Feat. Ezra Koenig) - "Carby" The VW frontman joins the VW scarfman and Ra Ra Rioter for Discovery's infectious "Carby." Pretend it's VW on an auto-tuned Hot 97 kick at HypeM. Jay-Z?

I didn't think the LP itself was too good. I was excited to see Ezra on one of the tunes, but it kind of falls flat.

Auto-tune ruins everything. Not only that, but Discovery sounded promising until this. I'm mad disappointed.

I had high hopes for this group and I still do but I hope they do not follow the trend of this song.

You guys take everything too seriously. Which gets a boo.

Ezra and the Discovery boyz breaking out a tune about drunken nights at the disco gets a hurrah. Because it's infectious and carefree and makes most people wanna dance.

Plus it's summer and plus there's an abundance of indie music out now that takes itself so fucking seriously, which (don't get me wrong) results in some awesome songs and albums, but this stuff is a like an upgrade for you when you feel like listening to something with a beat and some r n b flavor--an upgrade from turning on the top 40 rap station. Anyway, it's great for what it sets out to do, which is entertain. Ezra's voice is sugary as well.

i guess im not sure why this ironic take (referring to the whole record) on top 40 hits is any better than top 40 which lately has offered nothing new or well constructed save for some of Lil Waynes stuff and Justin Timberlake.

To me these are just bad pop songs and it makes you respect all the people that indie rock critics have traditionally poo-pooed. Writing catchy carefree songs isn't easier than making Radiohead record nor is it a less worthwhile endeavor. They both have merits.

I will refute that statement that most artists are taking themselves too seriously. Take Merriweather Post Pavillion (IMHO) one of the most groundbreaking records of the year is also the most fun and summery without wearing its influences on its cardigan.

In essence I think everyone is moving towards pop, just some are doing it better than others. Discovery has no unique voice. Its utterly derivative to the point where I wonder why this stuff gets attention at all.
