New Elvis Costello - "Little Boxes" (Theme To Weeds)

Just doing some browsing of sho.com after smelling that wacky Weeds ad in Rolling Stone, and behold: they're already streaming the season premiere's opening tune. (A different artist will sing Malvina Reynolds's "Little Boxes" in each episode.)

Check out Elvis Costello's version here. (Can one of you turn into an MP3 for us?) The episode premieres Monday night.

Elvis Costello - "Little Boxes" (MP3 Expired)

In week two, Death Cab For Cutie tackle the ticky-tacky theme. Regina Spektor, Jenny Lewis, and Tim from Polyphonic Spree will give it a go too. And the grass gets even greener when If All The Stars Were Pretty Babies' Zooey Deschanel joins the cast.

In one episode Snoop Dogg cameos as a DEA agent!

Just kidding, he plays himself.

Not that anyone needs it.

Wow...doesn't matter who sings it. That's just a really annoying song.

I love WEEDS, but my one major complaint about it (besides when she fucked that Mexican dealer in the alley; writing team, wtf was that??) is that heinous, heinous theme. Yes, we get that the show's a satire of suburban life. Even fucking DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES has enough sense not to beat viewers over the head with its opening credits.

"Ticky tacky" might be the ugliest, most irritating phrase in the English language, especially when it sounds like it's being sung by the Crypt Keeper.

The thing about the song is, it's a commentary on something about society that is as relevant today as it was in the 1950's. It's irritating, but the subject matter is, too. I think that's kinda cool.

Irritating?! This is the first show I've ever watched where I don't mind watching the intro EVERY TIME. I don't watch it live, so it's doubly significant that I feel this way, since I actually have the choice to FF and I don't! It's short, to the point, funny, poignant, relevant and the visuals go so well with it. I can't see how it's irritating at all.

Hmmm... maybe that's it. I am only thinking of this song in context with the show 'Weeds'. Try watching the intro to Weeds and you'll see how perfect this song fits. I supposed the song by itself could sound "irritating", but when paired with excellent visuals and shortened to the length of a TV show intro, it's brilliant!

I love the show and I love the theme. I think that it is perfect for the show. I love the idea of having different musicians tackle the song and present it with their own style.

I heard that them tune for the first time tonight. I first heard it sung by a chilean musician Victor Jara. His words are different and it's in Spanish. "Las casitas del barrio alto"
