New Golden Smog - Another Fine Day
Rumors of alt-country's demise are greatly exaggerated. Just don't call it alt-country, sayeth two former Jayhawks:
GARY LOURIS: "Alternative country is just such a sweeping generalization. We never did and still to this day don’t feel part of a scene or a movement. Really, we were all floating around in our own different band worlds."But don't discount the forefathers. Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, Big Star's Jody Stephens, and Soul Asylum's Dan Murphy join Louris for Golden Smog's new one Another Fine Day. The No Depression supergroup delivers a cool cover of Dave Davies' "Strangers," but two tunes Tweedy co-wrote are the highlights. Stream the whole album here.MARK OLSON: "I don't think anything’s happened to [alt-country]. It's probably just the same as it was then. There's a certain amount of people who when they put on those old records go, 'I gotta play something like this.'"

Am I the only one having trouble with this stream? Didn't work on my home Mac or my work PC... really want to hear this album!

I had trouble w/ the stream too -- I'm sure AOL is fixing it.

We opened for Soul Asylum this week and Dan said the new record is more of a scrappy little punkrock album than previous ones. Can't wait. Hope they tour. They all obviously have SO much fun doing it.

These guys just tore the place down on Sunday when they played at First Avenue. Kraig Johnson's soaring vocals really stood out! This guy is hugely talented.
