New Ian Hunter (Feat. Jeff Tweedy) - "Words (Big Mouth)"

Ex-Mott The Hoople man Ian Hunter has enjoyed a storied career. How many can claim to have had a David Bowie-produced album (All The Young Dudes) and have penned the theme to The Drew Carey Show? Of course, Bowie penned "All The Young Dudes." And of course, it still kills.

Though it's a long way to travel from "Once Bitten, Twice Shy" to the halls of indie rock, Jeff Tweedy is facilitating Ian's trek by lending his voice to three tracks on the forthcoming Hunter solo release Shrunken Heads. This song's a natural fit for Tweedy's reedy harmony, which you'll hear laced into the hook.

Shrunken Heads is out 5/15 on Yep Roc.

A little too country-sounding for my liking, but it's OK. You can definitely tell his voice is faltering a bit, but I suppose it adds character. Does he remind anyone of a blonde Paul McCartney?

At first I thought I was listening to Bob Dylan. Very nice. For the younger folks, Mott the Hoople's 'All The Young Dudes' cd is a rock classic and worth a listen...

One only needs to go back to RANT (2001) to hear a great Ian Hunter album.

Ian Hunter is a true legend and Mott were a
criminally underatd band. Ian should be inducted to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame!

Don't forget that Mott were much bigger in the U.K. and that they were Mick Jones (Clash) idols.

Just curious how people at Stereogum could love Modern Times and not like this...

I got into Ian and db at about the same time, (72) but whilst I'll order a new album of Ian's without hearing it beforehand, I like to listen to some of Mr Bowie's new stuff before deciding to buy.

Nice to see my faith in Ian has been rewarded again.
