New Linda Thompson (Feat. Antony) - "Beauty"

Rufus Wainwright somehow manages to be simultaneously the most debauched, celeb name-dropping man-about-town we know and the most prolific songwriter this side of a string section from Ryan Adams. So while he's giving quotes to Sienna Miller and Amy Poehler in the current issue of Interview about his fabulously famous friends and charmed post-rehab life, launching his average-to-above-average record Release The Stars, and allegedly penning an opera, of course Wainrofalo has time to dish off tracks for others' recording pleasure.

Rufus composed "Beauty" specifically for Brit folk rock legend Linda Thompson (mother of frequent Wainwright collaborator/tourmate Teddy Thompson), or so they say. (Wouldn't be too difficult to hear the Oscar Wilde-referencing track in Ruf's voice, would it?) Of course the songwriting credit, along with the guest vocal from the singular Antony, had us curious. And it's a good tune; nothing jaw-dropping, but a touching little track for flamboyant-piano-men completists.

These three were destined to collaborate -- you can just see it in their hands.

"Beauty" appears on Linda's forthcoming LP Versatile Heart, out 8/14 on Rounder.

Release The Stars is sure an avarage record, but we shouldn't expect great records from an artist all the time, shouldn't we? He has great records! And really it's a good tune!

i agree with bulut, Release the Stars isn't a classic along the lines of his previous releases, but it's still better than 99% of this year's releases. Got some excellant choons on there.
