New Pearl Harbor - "California Shakedown" & "M.L.O."

A couple months ago we introduced you to Piper and Skylar, aka L.A. dream-pop duo Pearl Harbor, via "Luv Goon," a song from their Mexican Summer 12". The track calmly transformed a bedroom into a wave pool with its slippery guitar and warm vocals. Or, as I said then, "Think about Washed Out's hazier ambiance combined with Real Estate's margarita-sipping Galaxie 500-isms." It's tacky quoting yourself, okay, but I think the description fits "California Shakedown," a song from their Wish We Were Here CD-R. (Though on this one you'll have to make sure the margarita's frozen, the beach scene setting.) We also have the premiere of "M.L.O.," the crystalline, and initially briny closing salvo from the aforementioned 12".

Here's "M.L.O."
Wish We Were Here, which you can get via the band, also includes a cover of Leland's "I've Got Some Happiness" (streaming at MySpace) and two demos. The Something About The Chaparrals 12" is currently available digitally via Mexican Summer. The actual physical 12" version is due sometime this winter. Gloriette, PPM, and Art Fag are putting out new PH 7"s early next year.

Between this song and 'Love Goon' I'm becoming more and more drawn to this band. Maybe I'm crazy, but I swear I hear a bit of the Bulgarian Women's Choir in this.

This is HORRIBLE indeed, and BTW girls, the stage name Pearl Harbor is taken by a woman in LA who can actually SING. Bulgarian Women's Choir my butt, these girls are eye candy indeed but CANNOT SING.
