New Phoenix Remixes Takes "1901" To Jamaica

thumbnail icon: New Phoenix Remixes Takes "1901" To Jamaica

After Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix's lead MP3 "1901" hit with its heavy-synthed dance pop, the last thing I thought was "this thing needs a rasta remix." Let alone two. But the band is suddenly and finally getting generous in spotlighting alternate takes on their winning new LP's '80s dance confections (yesterday it was "Listzomania"), and these two versions of Wolfgang track 2 take the song from the Parisian night club to considerably sunnier climes. The first is the "1901 (Dub*)" by Ivan Beck, which to these ears seems a mash of Thom Mars's vocals with Musical Youth's "Pass The Dutchie," iced with some new keyboard and guitar accouterments, and the next is a similarly dub-styled reworking by felipemusica, and it's super fun for the way it alters Thom's vocal phrasings and/or for smoking out.

Pass the dutchie:

Here "1901" gets a Jamaican mix by felipemusica:

UPDATE: Here's a blippy take by the Tremulance:

Phoenix - "1901 (The Tremulance Remix)"

It was spotlighted by the band, but comes from a remix context held by discodemons, where you can download a few more.

in the first sentence, you said the title of the record is "Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart", it's "Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix"

You are correct, it is fixed. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (27 January 1756 – 5 December 1791), was a prolific and influential composer of the Classical era.
