New Raveonettes - "Last Dance" (Demo)
Remember that time Kanye posted "Love Lockdown" on the Internet, and the Internet was like "some things need to be changed," and then he changed some things before selling it and making all the money? Picking up where Ye's fan-sourcing left off, the Raveonettes have decided to open their creative process to the hive mind by posting demos from their forthcoming, fourth album (in progress) to their Twitter, and inviting you to give constructive criticism on a mini-site they're in the process of fleshing out (or on MySpace). The first demo to surface is titled "Last Dance," which Sune Rose Wagner says is about "how drug addiction interferes with love." Hate it when that happens.

The Raveonettes fourth album doesn't have a title yet. If you have some good ideas, I get the sense they'd be open to hearing them. You'll need to register, but then you'll have access to the album's mini-site, where there'll be more demos, alerts, and that feedback section so you can request a songwriting credit along with your suggestion.

I still don't like the idea of the artist taking from their audience. Isn't the whole point that it is the other way around?

You shouldn't think of it as taking from their audience. The connection between artists and fans is a give and take relationship. The artist is like a mirror, fans watch and see pieces of themselves in the music. This should be viewed as a way of opening more doors so the parties can have a more enjoyable experience.

The xylophone part is exactly the same as on the chorus for Dead Sound. That's not even a slight exaggeration. There's pretty much no difference.
The Raveonettes are a band so consistent that they really don't need to do this, and, probably shouldn't. They're never going to do anything so crazy and new that their fans will balk at, so previewing the songs and asking for feedback seems unnecessary. It would be one thing if they were branching out, but clearly, they're not. At all. So what's the point; they're already guaranteed an audience.

I though they were going to hve a big name producer and were going to go for it this time? This seems like the opposite. I love them but they could use a full band and a great producer.

That's what they did with Pretty in Black and it was their weakest outing. The homemade, minimal Lust Lust Lust that followed was their best.

i live in Denmark. and i like the Raveonettes just fine. but, from what i can gather of the lyrics, Boys Who Rape is just..... ghastly. and possibly offensive.

Ignoring the lyrics, "Boys Who Rape" is fucking amazing. Perfect pop noise. Their albums usually have one song that's so amazingly beautiful I end up listening to it for a month or two non-stop. "Love Can Destroy Everything," "Ode to L.A.," and "With My Eyes Closed" were the standouts, if they can do something with the lyrics this one might be next.
