New Ryan Adams - "Jimmy Whistlenut"

thumbnail icon: New Ryan Adams - "Jimmy Whistlenut"

Ryan revived Pax-Am records with the welcome news of a new single that wasn't joke metal or conscience(less) rap, and then for Halloween released another: PAXAM 005 release "OBLIVION" b/w "People Need Sunlight," the first of which was recorded "right before Easy Tiger came out right before I quit getting wasted. Those were wild and crazy times indeed and I have always loved this track. You can almost taste the pollution in my mouth." It's out on pink vinyl, but it's already sold out.

While you're waiting for the digial release, or if you just missed the lighter side of D.R. Adams, have a listen to "Jimmy Whistlenut," which is the pretty, epic ballad of Jimmy Whistlenut's sax blowing wife, trouser licking dog, penchant for tripping on Robitussin and crack, time machine, break dancing, and jumping jacks. Not a non-non sequitur in the bunch, so you know it's good.

Poke around the Pax-Am store.

Looks like he caught a dose of what Rivers just got over...Never know with those theatrical types though...

To paraphrase Beavis and Butt-Head, it sucked, but at least it was short.

Some day, I'm going to give this guy a chance. I just don't know where to start.

Agreed. He's one of those super-prolific artists who, for better or worse, seems to keep cranking out albums and ends up with about as much unfortunate stuff as he does gems. Heartbreaker is a must and some of my favorite songs come from Jacksonville City Nights and Cold Roses. I'm also a fan of Easy Tiger but it's probably less essential than these. You may also want to check out Whiskeytown's Strangers Almanac. I just picked up Pneumonia (the album, not the illness) and haven't listened to it through yet, but it seems pretty great.

kcuf.seriously...
don't people realise its the journey...
In this corporate/over packaged/safe/minority slanted over opinionated age, how much would you like to put up the finger to the nam and follow your muse?
The fact is HE would have been the real deal if he'd allowed himself to become a Henley or a Springsteen. It doesn't matter if one person thinks one track/one album is the dogs because when you have an artist like this there is NO CONSENSUS. Just look at the boards..
Get on the ride and enjoy the ups and downs and prey that he has the engery to continue with us because very few out there are willing to fail at the moment.
What do you want III/IV or Pacifica? Yes, everyone's a critic blah...blah....bloody blah
Ahy men
