New Sunset Rubdown - "Idiot Heart"

Last month we took a look at the cover and tracklist for Dragonslayer (out 6/23), Sunset Rubdown's third full-band LP and second for Jagjaguwar. (Also, their first with new member Mark Nicol on bass and percussion.) In a January Progress Report, hard-working band leader Spencer Krug told us that he doesn't love 2007's Random Spirit Lover and explained why its followup will rely less on studio magic: "I like [live] kinds of recordings because they're very honest and it's hard to pretend that you sound any different from whatever it is." "Idiot Heart" is one of the tunes Spencer promised would make the cut, and now he's ready for you to download it. We love David Horvitz's new publicity shots of the group bonding at a spa (post-rubdown?), so peruse those while you listen.

They begin their tour by playing 8-dates in a row non-stop. Any band touring that hard deserves to have their own spa treatment...yes, including a post-rubdown.

Hell yes. He (Spencer Krug) may be the most talented musician alive today (save, perhaps, for Sufjan Stevens). My most anticipated album of 2009, easy.

anyone noticed the 'if you were a horse you would throw up the reigns'
lyric from 'the men are called horsemen' from the first record?

self-referential, and pretty fucking epic!

I know it was a typo, but "a welcome shit" deserves acknowledgment.

This song isn't particularly new; they played it for a Daytrotter session back in 2007.

The capybara, the world's largest rhodent, lives in South America and is eaten much like a thanksgiving turkey on special days.

This song is awesome btw.

I can tell by the triple 'hate' you gave that you're being honest. I hate hate hate people you listen to songs just to tell everyone how much they hate it.

Goddman Spencer Krug is so good. I can depend on everything he releases being good. Not many other songwriters like that at the moment.
