Oxford Collapse Cover "The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite"

Sub Pop trio Oxford Collapse joined former Sub Pop troupe Rogue Wave in stepping up to "The Sidewinder" for Drive XV, the bands taking markedly different paths but both turning in solid takes on the track. The Oxford men didn't try and reinvent as much as amplify, taking one of the looser, goosier Automatic cuts and ratcheting it up with even more grinnin' spunk. In fact, that's one of the reasons Oxford Collapse went with the song, saying, "We chose 'Sidewinder' because it's unique on the record -- it's the one silly song."

Mike Mills doesn't disagree; just don't ask him for the tune's hidden meaning: ""That's a song that to this day I'm not really sure what it's about, but it's a lot of fun."
