"Paper Planes" Producers Recruit Santigold For Monster War

thubmnail icon: "Paper Planes" Producers Recruit Santigold For Monster War

"Major Lazer is a Jamaican commando who lost his arm in the secret Zombie War of 1984. The US military rescued him and repurposed experimental lazers as prosthetic limbs. Since then Major Lazer has been a hired renegade soldier for a rogue government operating in secrecy underneath the watch of M5 and the CIA." Press release WIN. Under the Major Lazer umbrella, Switch and Diplo have concocted a Jamaican dancehall-inspired party album featuring vocal cameos from friends like Amanda Blank and Santigold. First single "Hold The Line" features a machine gun surf riff and toasting from Mr. Lexx and Ms. White. On the ID3 genre field, it said "Raggamuffingangsterkrunkdubstepsurfrock," so file under that. Diplo and Switch produced "Paper Planes" so don't be surprised to hear ringing phones and cash registers along with neighs. Did I mention Major Lazer "fights vampires and various monsters" and has a rocket powered skateboard? Basic concept album stuff.

Major Lazer - "Hold The Line (Feat. Mr. Lexx & Santigold)" (MP3)

I think they want you to make mashups.

And this track won't actually be on the album, but it's funny if you like Andy Milokanis.

Major Lazer - "Zumbi (Feat. Andy Milokanis)" (MP3)

Major Lazer threw a dance party at FADER Fort during SXSW. There was a mummy onstage during "Pon De Floor."

This is how the LP shapes up...
01 "Hold The Line" feat. Mr. Lex & Santigold
02 "When You Hear The Bassline" feat. Ms. Thing
03 "Can't Stop Now" feat. Mr. Vegas & Jovi Rockwell
04 "Lazer Theme" feat. Future Trouble
05 "Anything Goes" feat. Turbulence
06 "Cash Flow" feat. Jah Dan
07 "Mary Jane" feat. Mr. Evil & Mapei
08 "Bruk Out" feat. T.O.K. & Ms. Thing
09 "What U Like" feat. Amanda Blank & Einstein
10 "Keep It Goin' Louder" feat. Nina Sky & Ricky Blaze
11 "Pon De Floor" feat. VYBZ Kartel (Additional Prpduction By Afro Jack)

If this weren't a hip hop or raggawhatever album, everyone would call it pretentious.

yeah, i am looking forward to this for some reason. the appeal is definitely the fact that M.I.A. was mentioned. She is incredible. Hopefully, this album can have some aspects of the unique, catchy style of Maya's music. Oh, I hope it's good to dance to as well!
PS I am so excited for the new Pixies.

Wow! Major Lazer is not getting a very warm reception. Perhaps they would be more interested to know what that MF DOOM has dropped the MF is referred to only by DOOM in all caps.

The song in the video was dope but the show itself looked horribly dull. They should put some people on stage who are actually willing to dance, instead of guys who stand around in masks.
