Patterson Hood Aims To Get Out The Vote With An MP3

thubmnail icon: Patterson Hood Aims To Get Out The Vote With An MP3

Patterson always speaks to the big issues of the day, whether it's Thriller's anniversary or demanding records, so you knew he wasn't gonna sit this one out. Tomorrow's Election Day and the Drive-By Truckers' main man will be damned if you don't exercise your right to vote for a president your baby girl can be proud of. Something along those lines.

Actually it's this song, "Uncle Phil & Aunt Phyllis In The Month After The Election," that was written under the aforementioned circumstances, the week after Bush's win in '04, when Hood found himself in "semi-shock and near-depression as my daughter's birth was impending and I was depressed to think of her born into the world during a Bush Presidency." Whatever the outcome the next four years won't bring another term of Bush's presidency (not in name, anyway), but still Patterson's giving away this Election Season song -- featuring his dad David and fellow Truckers Brad Morgan and Johnny Neff -- as a gift and and a reminder to get your ass to the polls. There's definitely a lyric dealing with a Clinton speech causing Phyllis to menstruate for 16 days straight, so it's that sorta song, whatever that sorta song is.

Patterson Hood - "Uncle Phil & Aunt Phyllis In The Month After The Election" (MP3)

Here's the full text of Mr Hood's MP3 statement:

UNCLE PHIL AND AUNT PHYLLIS IN THE MONTH AFTER THE ELECTION

I wrote this song the week after the 2004 Presidential Election. I was in a state of semi-shock and near-depression as my daughter's birth was impending and I was depressed to think of her born into the world during a Bush Presidency.

It was recorded live in the studio at Chase Park Transduction with me on the microphone, David Hood (my Dad) on the bass guitar, Johnny Neff playing some sleazy sounding electric guitar, Brad Morgan playing the drums, and David Barbe on the B3. It was late at night and everyone's spirits were high.

I am throwing this out as my election week gift to you. Please get out and vote. I will be voting for Obama because I think he has the guts, vision judgment and smarts to guide us through these troubled times and help America regain her prominence in the 21st century.
It's time for a change and not four more years of bullshit.

Jr. has wrapped the Camaro around too many telephone poles and it's time to take his keys away.

LONG LIVE AMERICAN DEMOCRACY.

Respectfully Yours,
Patterson Hood
Drive-By Truckers

I think it's funny when conservatives call liberals uneducated, even as they rally around Sarah Palin and Joe the Plumber.
