Prince Brings "Fury" To SNL

Last night's Steve Martin intro was priceless, but I was really surprised how much I like this new Prince song, "Fury." Watch below, and if you've got MP3 send our way.

Later in the show Fred Armisen did his own "Prince Show." See, the Purple One does have a sense of humor!

UPDATE: Prince - "Fury (Live On SNL 2/4/06)" (MP3 Link Expired)

RELATED: NYTimes tells you where to Gawker Stalk Andy Samberg (Hudson & 11th).

i thought it was the most god-awful saturday night live i've ever seen. absolutely miserable... steve martin was a one-note joke that got worse with every spin.

That song struck me as WAY too Hendrix-meets-Santana to be anywhere near "good." The second song he did was pretty awesome though.

I thought Steve Martin could bring some magic!!!!
I thought Steve Martin could bring some humor!!!!

but no, damnit!!! SNL still sucks! I cannot believe that they let these skits pass??? What the hell??? Where did the punch lines go?

Apparently the 'joke' is that I'm enough of an idiot to keep falling for whatever 'ploy' they have to try and pull me in (Death Cab, Prince, etc); and I still attempt to watch it!!

Will someone kill Lorne Michaels already and give this show to Conan O'Brien?????

i thought the show had some moments worth a few giggles, at least. like the first digital short with the talking really close. though all in all, i was a little dissapointed with steve martin.

and i dont think i can appreciate prince very much outside of purple rain.

i don't understand why people ever expect SNL to be good. news flash: it has sucked since the 70s.

Was anyone else disappointed when the real Prince didn't make an appearance on the Prince Show? Couldn't they have had him in the mirror looking back at Fred A. when put on his Wonder Mask or whatever? This bothered me.
But yes, good show.

This song kicks some serious ass.

If Prince really had a sense of humor, he would have actually made an appearance in the Prince Show

And as for people thinking that was one of the worst episodes ever, have you watched recently? I think last night's was pretty damn good.

Good news... Lorne Michaels just hired the people who did the "Brokeback to the Future" video that's been linked all over the net. It's all part of the new SNL casting strategy: find funny internet memes and immediately hire those who invented them.

I heard Michaels is even in negotiations with the people who brought us "All Your Base Are Belong To Us".

ben, I concur.

and seriously, I was fully expecting Prince to be in the Prince Show, and I think the audience was too. Did you hear that explosion of applause they gave when what's-his-name walked out dressed as Prince? And then it died down when they realized it was just an actor. That sucked ass, man.

and the digital short was interesting.

Prince is a badass mothafucka and you all know it. HE MADE THE GUITAR PLAY ITSELF!! Then he walks offstage like a pimp and shows all those whiney emo boys and lame nu-metal posers how to tear it up. Follow that Fred Armisen! And he doesn't even play any of his old songs even though he hasn't been on the show in 25 years. He owns my ass and yours too.

everyone hates me for liking and watching SNL (still), but whatever. I love Maya Rudolph. I, too, was expecting Prince to show up on "The Prince Show," as well as the real Beyonce, since she's in that shitty-ass Pink Panther remake with Steve Martin. I bet her agent or whoever told her to distance herself from any publicity involving that movie.

The new album isn't out until March as far as I know. I don't think you'll find an mp3 for a while yet. I almost didn't watch because I was afraid he was going to do that slow, latino-esque single. Phew!

The SNL skits are still too bloody long for my taste. Will they never learn? Why's the show still a whole hour and a half? They couldn't fill the time even back in the seventies when they had Gilda Radner.

classicrocksucks, just because it's indie doesn't mean it's good. Conversely, just because it's old and/or mainstream doesn't mean it's bad. By your logic, Do Rabbits Wonder? by Whirlwind Heat is better than Purple Rain. So fuck off.

Is this an indie music blog? Really? The last thing I really remember that was truly indie was the Midlake MP3. Just accept this as a music blog and it's a lot more interesting.

I'm most likely the only one who noticed this, but is it just me or does this song have a huge video game music feel to it.

Especially in what I guess is the chorus, all I could think about was Flash Man's music from Mega Man 2.

Yeah I'm a huge geek. Anyways, the song was quite good, no Purple Rain, but still the highlight of an awful SNL.

um, classicrocksucks, where does it say this is an indie rock site? This is a BLOG run by some people who wanted to share their musical tastes and findings with others, and it just so happens to be rather popular. And besides, just because it's indie, does it mean it's necessarily better than all classic rock? By saying you definitely like 100% hate everything over 3 years old, that's making a pretty ambiguous statement. Have you heard every single indie/classic rock song ever put out? No. Therefore you can't know that everything in one genre sucks.

But I posted before os i should stop now.

Haha. This, my friends, is why I loathe indie fucks. As if saying anything not indie sucks wasn't blasphemous enough, this guy is telling the "dude" how to run a blog (and calling it a site, mind you!) Good music is good music, like it or not. Period. Don't think so? Go create your own blog and tell your fans all about it.

In regards to the song, I agree with Scott, that song was really likeable. I've never really been a Prince fan but that song has greatness written all over it. There's no denying, Prince is a great showman. There, i'm done with my rant. I bid you farewell.

I love it when the real musicians come out and play once in ahwile. For once a artist on SNL, did not neeed a backing track to fulfill the night is a testamony to his grandour. You detractors need to smoke yourselves out and get a life. J-Lo will pass soon, go with her, silently.

Best performance on SNL in years, although it may not be the best song. Finally, an appearance by someone that really knows how to play an instrument. Best segue to a commercial a break. It seems like the guitar is racing through the tunnel. Prince didn't need to light the guitar at the end. The entire stage was in flames the whole time. Some of you indies might want to take some notes on how to put on a show and maybe spend a little more time praciticing.

P.S.

To those of you that think soloing is equal to masturbation: you must stink at foreplay. I pity your partners. I wonder whether you are ignorant or jealous. When it comes to performing arts, those that can, do, and those that can't, criticize the ones that can.
