"Suburban Rapper" Samples Weezer, Weezer Announce North American Tour

thubmnail icon: "Suburban Rapper" Samples Weezer, Weezer Announce North American Tour

Popular "suburban rapper" Asher Roth samples Weezer's "Say It Ain't So" in his debut single "I Love College." It leaked yesterday. It's been a long time since we've mentioned Weezer. The Morrisville, PA rapper (who currently lives in Atlanta) is signed to SRC records (see Akon, Wu-Tang, Remy Ma). Asher recently got his name out some more with the help of Don Cannon and DJ Drama via The Greenhouse Effect mixtape (you can download it at his site). He recently did work with the Cool Kids. OK, now that you know a bit more about frat rap, take a listen to the track while you read over the Weezer tour dates.

Asher also does Weezy via a cover of "A Milli," which you can hear at his MySpace. As far as the "I Love College" sampling material, Weezer themselves head on a Red-powered North American tour in September. The openings bands are Warped Tour favorites Angels And Airwaves and blog favorites Tokyo Police Club. The dates:

09/23 - Boston, MA @ Tsongas Arena
09/24 - New York, NY @ Madison Square Garden
09/26 - Atlantic City, NJ @ Borgata Casino
09/27 - Philadelphia, PA @ Susquehanna Center
09/29 - Detroit, MI @ The Palace of Auburn Hills
09/30 - Toronto, ON @ Air Canada Center
10/02 - Chicago, IL @ All State Arena
10/03 - St. Paul, MN @ Xcel Arena
10/05 - Denver, CO @ Broomfield
10/07 - Salt Lake City, UT @ E Center
10/09 - Portland OR @ Memorial Coliseum
10/10 - Vancouver, BC @ GM Place
10/11 - Seattle, WA @ Key Arena
10/13 - San Jose, CA @ Events Center
10/14 - Los Angeles, CA @ The Forum

Is he serious? Really? If you want to listen to some real suburban hip hop go here: www.myspace.com/micmitts and download 'The Bootleg Mixtape'. Asher Roth is terrible.

If you're looking for some intellectualized college post-doctorate hiip hop, look no farther than MC Paul Barman. If you want some some white boy hip hop rapping about weed, try the Kottonmouth Kings. Or so I'm told.

literally everyone and their sister have done versions of "a milli." it has nothing to do with how good he is, just the fact that he calls himself a rapper and it is the year 2008 requires him to do one. it's like a legal requirement or something.

I think that I just have utmost respect for the chap. It's such a calculated song aimed at such a maaaasive market. It'll be a college anthem for so many fools, and soundtrack a million TV shows about students. Pinching the "chug chug" thing is the cap of this man's "genius"... it's basically a 'melody' that millions of people know, but has (until now, probably) never been actually in a song.

I'm just in awe. Why didn't I think of this?!! :(
