Sufjan Stevens Wishes You A Merry Christmas
Although we're still waiting on hearing the identity of the lucky someone who'll get the greatest Sufjan gift of all (their very own Sufsong!), and although this is not quite as large an Xmas offering from St. Stevens (with a rose, in and out of the garden he goes) as we've had in years past ... it is a gift nonetheless, and a cute (albeit brief) addition to our previous editions of 2007 holiday MP3s. From the intro, sounds like Sufjan and his group of caroling children knocked this out in one take, including bells, drums, and lots of remnant guitar chatter echoing those words of the governor.

Soooo does this dude only have one face when people take his picture or what? I feel like they dress up a cardboard cutout and just change up the backdrop each time.

Does anyone else constantly want to punch him in the face?

I can't stand this arrogant prick but it keeps getting space in this and other otherwise worthy and smart websites, "rock is dead" what the f$%k does he know about what other people feel and see, what a blood boiling pretetntious person.

He's gained some weight, hasn't he?

What denomination is he? I know he's really keen on Jesus, but I dunno what church he belongs to.

Sorry haterz, but the picture is funny if you grew up in the '80s.

I hear he used to be Presbyterian and is now Anglo-Catholic. http://www.anglicanpck.org/

I'm sorry "yomomma," but it seems to me that the only people that think this whole 80s nostalgia thing is funny are ones that grew up in the 90s.

He has said Episcopalian in the past, for whoever asked.

Dustin3000,
Couldn't agree more. All the 80's nostalgia is based mainly on people who might've been technically born in the 80's but don't remember anything before 1991. People who think "Saved by the Bell" was an 80's show. To have true 80's nostalgia, you have to have been born in the early 70's to mid seventies at the latest. I was born in '79 and don't remember too much before 1985. Just bits and pieces. and by bits and pieces, I mean the horse and dog puppets that taught life lessons on saturday morning TV.
its like that LCD Soundsystem line, "borrowed nostalgia for the unremembered 80's."

LOL @ bender. MUZIK IZ SERIOUS BIZNESS!
Is that his real wife and kids?

@BillO
I was '79 as well. It's too bad you don't remember experiencing anything before 1985 cause 1984 was the best year ever for 80's nostalgia...
i.e. some films from 1984: Karate Kid, Neverending Story, Ghostbusters, temple of doom, gremlins, footloose, Romancing the Stone, The Terminator, Police Academy, Beverly Hills Cop, Amadeus, purple rain, spinal tap, elm street 1, dune, The Muppets Take Manhattan, Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo....
The first ever MTV VMAs.
It's kind of ridiculous when you think about it, but I don't really have a point here.

I hate the song.

This song is solid- I'm shocked at all of the hate.

He seems rather introverted. How on earth would you call that arrogant?
He might be over-hyped, but it doesn't change the fact that he's a damn good musician.
I'm pretty sure he's stated quite a few times that although his religious beliefs do indeed plan an integral role in his music (ie. Seven Swans), he doesn't like to make a big deal out of them, or to project those views onto others (which is likely why his work has become increasingly 'secular' as he's gained more and more public attention). Kudos to Christians who don't push/force their beliefs on others -- I seriously respect him for that.
Either way.... His Kennedy Center performance was perhaps the greatest musical experience I've ever encountered.

Props to BillO, especially for remembering the very apt LCD Soundsystem line.

yehhe I snagged one of those Santas at a show. It's been sitting on top of the piano for nearly a year now 3/4s deflated.

I don't think angry 'bender' and 'geo' above here get Sufjan Stevens at all. What matters isnt his face or appearance, or his religious beliefs. Its about the music he produces. Which is brilliant.
Thats his statement, his work. Its touched thousands of people.
Whats yours, assholes?

I'm in love with Suf! :)

Sufjan makes some amazing music. I had no idea he was a Christian, but based on his lyrics, he's clearly someone who cares about religion and that's pretty awesome. To have a faith and to not feel compelled to shove it down someone else's throat is awesome, no matter what the religion or denomination.
He's one of the most talented musicians out there right now. The "haters" can say whatever they want about him, it doesn't even begin to affect how much I enjoy his music so it's just hot air from anonymous flaming a**es.
