The 'Gum Drop L: Hear New Stills, Win Converse & Downtown Records Swag

Montreal quintet the Stills are poised to release their third album Oceans Will Rise (via Arts & Crafts) next week and then head out on an American tour with "Sex On Fire" scribes Kings Of Leon this fall. In this week's 'Gum Drop we debuted triumphant Oceans standout "Eastern Europe" and asked vocalist/guitarist Tim Fletcher about the story behind the track. He let us know "It's all about taking a time and place that was terrible and painful and remaking it beautiful to let it be that way forever in your mind like a tribute and place you can go to to feel warm again, to watch it all unfold and remember it kindly," among other things. Listen to the track and heed his words here. While you're at it, check out those dates with Kings Of Leon in detail at the Still's website.

We also offered you a chance to a pair of Chuck Taylor All-Stars, a Converse gift certificate, and a Downtown Records Prize Pack.

One winner gets a pair of Chuck Taylor All-Star sneakers, a Converse gift certificate for another pairs of Chucks, and a Downtown Records Prize Pack (new artist CDs, posters, etc).

The connection between Converse and Downtown is related to Converse and Journeys's "Get out of the Garage" contest. Basically, Converse and Journeys are accepting original song submissions. The winner gets a free trip to NYC for four days/three nights of free studio time so they can fully realize (create, mix) their song. Said final winner will be chosen by Downtown Records, home of Gnarls Barkley, Justice, Santogold, etc. The general graphic design of the thing:

You can find out the specifics for the promotion and see the above image in its larger version here.

As far as the 'Gum Drop giveaway, though, you don't need to write a song. Just enter to win. Remember, one person gets the Chucks (the winner gets to choose his/her preferred size and color), a Converse gift certificate, and a Downtown Records Prize Pack. Enter to win. And you still have time to win the limited-edition Joy Division Zune. Enter for that giveaway here.

CONTEST ENDS 08/27/08 AT 12PM EST.

The song you guys posted is definitely the worst song on a pretty good record. It took a few listens to sink in, but I'm enjoying Oceans Will Rise.

This is another fantastic tune from what is shaping up to be an amazing album no doubt. I'm looking forward to picking up the album on Tuesday. They're playing a free show at the 'Shoe in Toronto as well - stoked.
