As a followup to Thing Of The Past, psychedelic San Francisco folk-rock troupe Vetiver, aka Andy Cabic & Co., is releasing a companion covers EP called More Of The Past (11/11, Gnomonsong). In addition to the EP, the band's putting out a two-song 7", which finds More Of's "Hey Doll Baby" backed by the vinyl-only "Miles Apart." Well, vinyl-only until we premiered it in this week's Drop. On top of offering the new track, we asked Cabic about his take on A.R. Kane's original. You can listen to the song and read his thoughts ("I'm not setting out to 'own' the song. Ownership is determined by the ear of the listener I suppose...") here.

On top of the Vetiver, we offered the chance to win a Logitech Pure-Fi Elite iPod Speaker System and an iPod Nano (in pink), courtesy of New York trash rock duo the Gay Blades.

One grand prize winner will receive, courtesy of New York trash-pop duo the Gay Blades, a Logitech Pure-Fi Elite iPod Speaker System, an 8GB iPod Nano (in pink), a signed copy of the Gay Blades' new album Ghosts, a Gay Blades t-shirt, a Gay Blades bandanna, and Gay Blades limited- edition 7" on red vinyl. Take a look at the speaker system:

And, the pink Nano:

Three runner-ups will receive a copy of the Ghosts, out now via Triple Crown.

Also, in case you were curious about what the previously dropped term "trash pop" means, the Gay Blades' people explain:

Trash pop is what happens when two keenly observant wanna-be hipsters write and record songs the same pair couldn't possibly pull off live, and make up for their missing bass player with consistently explosive performances and a heaping spoonful of swagger.

The band is heading out on the road with Young Coyotes: You can check out the dates at the band's MySpace. This is what they look like:

One winner gets the Nano and the Speakers and all that Gay Blades gear. Three winners each get a CD. Enter to win here. There's also still some time left for you to take home a ton of Bob Dylan goods, but you need to enter first.

CONTEST ENDS 11/12/08 AT 12PM EST.

The download link for the Vetiver song in this week's Gum Drop link doesn't seem to be working.
