The Ghostface Of You Lingers

Are you over mashups yet? Neither are we! Hear enough lame attempts and Danger Mouse style rap 'n' pop stitch jobs and, yeah, they get aggravating. But stuff like last year's team9 vs. Stereogum mix goad on our inner-geek, and not just 'cause our name's in there. Another mashup crew we check in with is The Hood Internet, who brings us this spliced gem featuring Spoon and Ghostface.

Spoon vs. Ghostface Killah - "The Ghostface Of You Lingers" (MP3)

If you dig, check out The Hood Internet's mash of the Roots vs. Deerhunter, Snoop Dogg vs. Architecture In Helsinki and most excellently, Justice vs. Destiny's Child. She's no Uffie, but Beyoncé sounds nice over "Waters Of Nazareth"'s ruptured-tweeter funk.

I think this is the first I've heard of a mashup that uses a song that hasn't even actually been released yet.

just like The Onion's headlines are funnier than the articles, the titles of these mashups are way more interesting than the songs themselves.

Kinda over mashups to begin with...which could be informing this opinion: There are no drums on the original Spoon track...adding in some watered down four-on-the-floor beat just to hold things together is not skills.

you guys can hate, but I honestly like a silly hip-hop mashup with indie tracks. it's nice to see Sterogum reporting something to do with hip-hop that isn't retarded.

I honestly enjoy this mashup track more than Spoon's original. It's probably because I heard this version first. Either way, I can't listen to the original anymore -- the mashup has taken over my life!
