Weird Tapes Remix Instamatic

thubmnail icon: Weird Tapes Remix Instamatic

The four-man Philly synthesizer troupe get remixed by Weird Tapes, aka Tri-State Memory Tapes/Cassette pal Dayve Hawk. You can hear the synth-rock-ish original at Instamatic's MySpace. Weird Tapes' ambling steel-drum and spaced-out take is, well, weirder. And all the more interesting for it.

Instamatic - "This Is (Weird Tapes Version)" (MP3)
(Via We're Tapes)

Don't forget the time Hawk spent getting his songs tweaked.

ENOUGH WITH THIS GLO-POP-PSYCHADELIC-LO-FI-SYNTH-TAPE-MIX-BEDROOM MUSIC ALREADY!!! Seriously, it all sounds the same at this point, and therefore I don't care what the band's name is because I can't even tell apart one from another!

I agree with the asshole two comments above and not the band promo team guy directly above taking advantage of anonymous posting. There isn't even anything remotely original or new sounding about this type of music. Seriously, is this what music in 2009 has to offer?

It's ok, but nothing to write home about. It also doesn't really sound like any of the genres listed in the first comment so I don't understand that. Did the person even listen to this song before they ranted?

I saw Instamatic open up for Celebration here in Philly. I'd already forgotten that they existed and that was only 3 months ago.
If you're going to write about this type of music made by Philly bands, it'd probably be better to write about Cold Cave.

everyone on stereogum boards here is a really hopeless bunch of assholes going at eachothers throats trying to tell stereogum what to write about. shut the fuck up.

i know. stereogum did away with anonymous comment ratings to decrease the amount of obnoxious postings but it seems they only scared away the posters who wrote stuff worth reading since nobody wants to create a profile. the idiots hung around to stay.
