White Stripes Coke Ad Uncut (And Ripped To MP3)

Watch the extended version here (MOV).

Link from MediaGuardian who says "the controversial song by White Stripes singer Jack White will air once only on UK TV."

"The ad tells a tale suggesting that when you perform a random act of kindness, it will always come back to you. In the film, a young girl is dismayed when she loses her pet bird. Despite her grief she randomly helps a stranger. This act of kindness is then transferred onto someone else, and in turn someone else again. This continues until coming full circle back to the girl, who is rewarded by the return of her bird. It is understood Coca-Cola has aired a version of the ad just once globally - a standard 30-second cutdown of the film in Australia during an MTV awards show. A grainy pirate recording of the shortened version has been circulating on the internet."
Thanks Andrew for the heads up, and thanks Mike for the MP3.

Hey Scott, minor screwup, wrong YouTube link. Here's the right one, babay.

I see no controversy either.

I think the controversy is that Coke is OMG Eeeeevil! Because they are a corporation and exploit people in Third World countries. As corporations are wont to do.

Is the track really credited to The White Stripes and not just Jack White? The difference is important to me and perhaps nobody else.

I think the controversy is Jack White selling out.

But what does that have to do with showing it on TV?

I am also confused.

white stripes. coke.

i'm pretty sure the controversy ran out around 5 in the morning when nobody would answer their cell phones or pages and that pissed someone off.

I think Coke only playing it once on TV is just their way of sparking everyone's interest to see it on the internet... everyone who wants to see it [mostly Stripes and Gondry fans] can see it and it doesnt cost Coke advertising time on TV.

Yeah, Coke wants to pinch every penny and keep their advertising to a bare minimum. Good luck to that young upstart company!

the controversy is that everyone's saying that he "sold out" because he said he'd never do ads. then again the guy supposedly drinks alota coke. so who cares? its just an ad.

Um......this is a TOTAL RIP OFF. Well, maybe not, but there is a japanese singer named YUKI who has the exact same music video. Maybe its the same director?? But anyway look for yourself please:

The controversy might be about black and white people sharing screen time together. Or, maybe it is about homeless people sharing the park with sweet young girls. I found the whole thing shocking!

It sounds like neil diamond to me... i love the walkmen still, and they sold an actual song of theirs to GM, who destroys the environment, lays off its workers, and makes a crappy product.

No qualms here-- go jack go.

white's singing is consistently sharp on the verses, as if he couldn't hear himself when he was recording with headphones on, he has no pitch problems on the choruses though

Nagi Noda directed both the commercial and the YUKI video. So it is not a ripoff just a director reusing a concept. It was not Gondry who did the Coke ad.

isn't the ad just a copy of the video for Hardest Button to Button? the dirtector isn't the same guy, but i don't think its a rip off of any other artists.

Jack sold out? Since when? Is it compromising your music to write a song SPECIFICALLY for a commercial? No. You may think that it's evil and corporate, but it's a completely seperate endeavor than just writing a song or filming a short. Think about it. Does Coke really need advertising? Does anyone not know what Coke is? Are people suddenly going to buy more Coke and exploit more third world countries because of this ad? No, they don't need it, and Jack and Nagi Noda probably knew that. So why not make a cool commercial for them and share it with the world? Pricks.

"the controversy is that everyone's saying that he "sold out" because he said he'd never do ads. then again the guy supposedly drinks alota coke. so who cares? its just an ad."

--------------------------------------------
Here is Jack's quote about doing ads:

“O: Do you have a hard-and-fast rule about your music and advertising?

JW: Not really. It starts to bother you when you get so many offers and so much money is thrown at you from these generic companies who don’t care about spending half a million dollars on this or that. When it all starts piling up, you start thinking, “Man, I might really want that money 50 years from now.” We were never against it, and A LOT OF POPULAR OPINION NOWADAYS HAS CHANGED ABOUT THOSE KINDS OF THINGS. We still haven’t done anything like a commercial, but I’M NOT REALLY AGAINST IT.”

To answer someone's earlier question, no this is NOT a White Stripes song. It is just Jack White.
