Muse Ask Glenn Beck To Retract Endorsement In this audio clip, Glenn Beck's singing Muse's praises ... and then an email from Muse's management asking him to please stop plugging them comes in. It's in the last 30 seconds and it's pretty funny.

Easily lead automatons rocking out to Muse at their next tea bag party or whatever the hell it is those idiots do. That could have been amusing.

Now aren't you glad I brought this to your attention? It's comedy that just keeps on giving.

i thought music was universal...bridges a gap? people can take a song for what it means to them, personally/emotionally and express themselves freely with it. that's the gift of an artist or artists. no one is allowed that anymore?

You miss the point (or didn't listen to the audio). Beck, as is his wont, was making Muse out to be ideologically aligned with him.

If he had discussed the band purely on musical terms, I'm sure it wouldn't have been so much of a problem, but Beck has to make everything political, offending the band by suggesting they agree with his brand of crazy.

i understand your point, michael, but the Muse song itself is overtly political. Beck didn't specifically say the band had anything towards agreeing with "his brand of crazy". He stated they are Libertarians, explained the structure and lyrics of the song...his sound manager who became very familiar with the band was the one suggesting that Beck sounded alot like Muse. Beck's specific reference was that the expression and lyrics of the song parallels with the book 1984.

wow! that's how you handle debates or disagreements? good luck with that type of power of persuasion, it's outdated and rusty.

Fuck you and your high road bullshit. Anyone on here defending Glenn Beck was likely over at the Drudge Report 10 minutes ago hunting and pecking an all-caps rant on Barry Obama's Socialist Agenda.

I refuse to show you any amount of respect implied through rational discourse, but rather, encourage you to bite my liberal ass.

@truthmonger The thing is that they're NOT Libertarians. Matt Bellamy is Georgist, which isn't close to Libertarian.

Georgist, which isn't close to Libertarian...are you absolutely sure?
"The libertarian ideology thus requires that it be corrected to recognize that not only man but land cannot justly be private properly. While government can never be abolished, it must be on the lowest possible level. Such an amended version may some day be recognized as true libertarianism. This is Georgism. Therefore, true libertarianism is Georgism."

THE AMPERSAND:
"Q: Your lyrical themes are pretty grandiose. What literature influences your writing?
A: In terms of fiction, I'm not a big fiction reader at all. [George Orwell's novel] 1984, you can hear a bit of that creeping into the album. I read a lot of foreign policy, political think-tank type books. The Grand Chessboard, by Zbigniew Brzezinski is a book about America's desire for hegemonic primacy, world dominance, how they manage the Eurasian land-mass. That sort of Dr. Strangelove style thinking. I love these sort of mad thinkers. I used to read a lot of things like mystery books and things like that. I'm always interested in peoples different perspectives of reality. I don't know if I necessarily believe them, but I enjoy them."

And I would hope Neil Peart would do the same.

Yeah, "Keith" sounds all genius-like and stuff. These libkids can rarely articulate any sort of intelligent discourse - there just aren't enough bumper stickers out there to assist them when the debate gets tough - or even, elementary. Beck's comments on the concepts MUSE include in their music are completely accurate - anyone can see, that lyrically, that's exactly what's going on. Saying they're ahead of their time, great musicians, etc. is an awesome endorsement to, what is it now? about 3 million listeners everyday?! Their "representative" definitely didn't do them any favors with that fax/e-mail/call. They probably stood to sell anywhere from 10k to 150k more albums just from this single endorsement. You can't buy that kind of advertising. What morons. They'll regret that down the road.

The fact that we're arguing the merits of anything Glenn Beck says is ridiculous. Beck doesn't articulate intelligent discourse; he tosses off mostly crazy conspiracy theories like all art in Rockefeller Center being fascist and/or socialist. He's either batshit crazy or he's an even better parody of the conservative pundit than Stephen Colbert. It's quite possible he could be both.

Additionally, no one seems to realize that Muse isn't serious with most of their lyrics and performance? The sci-fi totalitarian shtick is mostly kitsch. The over-the-top Queen-aping to add to the pomp and seriousness adds to it.

The problem here is that Beck is attracted to it in the same way an earnest 15 year old is; he takes everything he's hearing literally, not recognizing the intended humor in a lot of it. He's like an angry teenager that just discovered Rage Against the Machine. He's pissed off and frustrated but doesn't have an outlet for it, and probably isn't even entirely sure what he's angry at. Suddenly, he hears this rage-filled firebrand articulating anger at fairly vague groups: inept government, racist white people, and so on. So the kid suddenly believes all of this and becomes political transforming into a douchebag left-wing nutcase.

Fortunately, most kids grow out of that phase because they're angry due to the hormonal imbalance of being a teenager. Beck is a 40-something grown man, attaching himself to a rock band that makes semi-ironic references to Orwell because he's a step or two away from being Howard Beale. He's mad as hell and he only has a vague clue as to why. And it usually involves Obama in devil horns gobbling up people in his sharp fangs so he can further his agenda of socializing the end of the world.

Probably why Muse wants to disassociate themselves from him. Only two groups of people follow Beck regularly enough to hear the endorsement: crazies that wanna tear apart every last word he says or crazies that wanna hang off every last word he says. I wouldn't want either of those two groups showing up at my concerts if I was a band.
