Music Journalism Sarcasm?

Sometimes dry, factual comments in new stories come off as snide but funny:

And sometimes it just comes off as pointlessly mean:
Grammy-winning R&B singer D'Angelo is listed in critical condition after his Hummer crashed on September 19th in his native Virginia[...] His latest album, Voodoo, was released in 2000. ("D'Angelo Injured in Crash")
Is it just me, or are they trying to say, "D'Angelo's career isn't going anywhere."? It just seems like an extraneous piece of information, and a weird one to end on.

Those wire reports (AP, Reuters et al), they always like to include little bits dry "context" like that. for most people, Voodoo and the Grammys were the last they heard of D'Angelo. I think it's a totally fair thing to include.

I agree with scott, but even if it was included to point out how long it has been, I still think it is fair to include. I mean, this guy really is doing nothing with his life, and it is indicative of the fact that he can't get his shit together.

I think it puts D'Angelo in context. "Why is his car crash better than the guy down the street on his way from work?" Oh, I see. He had an album out in 2000. Validates the "news" since he's a celebrity.

Yes, it reminds everyone who I am since nobody has heard from me in 5 years, except my parole officer.

P.S. I am recovering nicely

i thought that maybe they were insinuating that there was some crazy voodoo at work in the crash. that erykah badu must have some bad feelings after D'angelo turned Common gay.

How does someone "reach" a principle? That's absolutely incoherent.
